Isadora Video Toy

Thanks for downloading Isadora. This demo file illustrates some of the capabilities of Isadora, including the ability to create custom control panels.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting Up

1) Double click on the "Video Toy" to open it.

2) If for some reason Isadora can't find the media files on your hard drive, it will display a dialog asking you to locate them. The media files are located in a folder called "Media" inside the "Isadora Examples" folder. Isadora will probably be looking for the file called "Bubbles.mov" -- just locate this file in the Media folder and click "Open". Isadora will automatically find the rest of the files, because they are located in the same folder.

3) You are encouraged to import your own media into the media window. Choose File > Import Media. Then, in the file selection dialog, import your movies. Note that Isadora may not perform well with full resolution DV movies. (The best format for speedy playback is 320 x 240 JPEG.)

3) Choose Show Stage from the Windows menu.

4) In the bottom left portion of the document, click on the first Scene, which is entitled "Introduction". The Scene will turn blue to indicate that it is active, and contents of the custom control panel designed for this demo will become visible in the top right portion of the window.

Once you can see the stage, you can start playing.

The "Video Bins" on the left and right side allow you to choose your clip just by clicking on a movie's thumbnail.

You can set the playback speed, and movie's loop settings directly under the video bin. To return to playing the entire movie at normal speed, click the Reset button.

Below that you will see the Effect 1 and Effect 2 popup menus. These allow you to choose from a few effects designed for this particular patch. All effects use at least one parameter, which you can adjust with the Param 1 slider. Some of the effects use Param 2 and Param 3 as well.

If you like, you can manipulate Param 1 with the amplitude of sound being captured by the video camera connected to your computer, or the internal microphone if no video camera is attached. Just toggle the "Snd" button next to the Param 1 slider. You can monitor the current sound level by watching the "Sound Level" slider in the center section. If the sound level is low, try adjusting the "Snd In Sensitivity" to make it more sensitive.

In the center, you choose which of the two videos you will see. You can simply slider the top slider (below the word Mix) to fade from one video to the other. Click the "<" to fade to the left video, click ">" to fade to the right. You can adjust the fade time by typing a number in the "Fade Time" number box. You can also cut to the left or right video by pressing the "Cut 1" or "Cut 2" buttons respectively.
